Does anyone know of an MP3 hosting site that allows direct linking of MP3's and quality higher than 128 kbps?

I've been looking for a long time... can't find one anymore. IUMA used to be good but they don't seem to be working well anymore

thanks!

What is it you want to host and why the need for higher quality? What things do you already have hosted today?

Many ISP firms offer web hosting services. Assuming this is your music (which avoids any legal issues), many ISPs could care less what you actually put on your site.

Can't give you specific site but here are some links pages listing mp3 uploads services:

http://www.dorumalaia.com/links.htm

Let us know if you come up with anything. I've been thinking of uploading material or starting my own web page, but I have not seen anything out there that offers fast downloads--nevermind quality. Almost everytime someone posts an mp3 link on this BBS, it either fails on my Mac (maybe that's the problem!) or takes too long to download. I have a fast cable connection but it's still frustrating.

Yeah i've tried find free web site hosts and just putting my MP3's up but most are such a hassle and don't work it seems. One i got to work was angelfire but then i couldn't figure out how to do it with their stupid web based editor. THanks for those links i'm going to try those out. I have a soundclick account but they don't allow direct linking to mp3's and i need higher than 128.

On a side note, is there a good program for dithering quality? I've put my mp3's down to 128 to fit in my soundclick account using Cdex, but the quality just seems terriblec ompared to 160. But i've heard good sounding mp3's at 128. I'm in a muddle.

THanks for any input,
T

You're not going to find higher than 128 for free, believe me I've looked. Also consider----1. the size of the member audience that you might gain access to by using a nominal fee pay site. 2. many folks are still on the modem and struggle with streaming or downloading even at 128. 3. 128 sounds perfectly fine to most ears, unless you are primarily trying to impress obsessive career recording engineers or severe audiophiles anything above 128 (until we gain the next major leap in transmission speed and the majority of web users have access to it) is pretty much unnecessary even hindering to the end user/listener. no one wants to wait 10 minutes to hear a song by a band that they have never or barely heard of.

you bring up a good point that they possibly won't be able to tell the difference but I dont know how true that is and i still want ti to sound as good as possible.

The mp3's would be for possible clients in my 'studio' wanting to record, so they might have a keen ear... and i want good quality for my own state of mind. I think people would also wait to download a file if they are possible future clients. THanks for the input i'll try looking at some pay sights.

does anyone know of any free servers that offer a decent amount of space? (not music based)

thanks again,
T
