Hi All.
I record instructional and reference CD's of liturgical music.
I record all of the vocals myself.
I have experimented with various mic positions, and like to be somewhat close to the mic.
The problem is that in the mix, the vocals are too far forward in relation to the instruments.
One way of compensating is adding some compression, but I don't what to compress too much, since the vocals lose some warmth to my ear.
Perhaps I should just turn the volume down on the vocal track??
I really do not want to re-record the vocal tracks from another mic position.
You hear some samples:

These are mixes in process, so you hear mouse clicks, etc. Other caveats: I am a hobbyist in home recording not a pro. Also, I am no great singer
.
I would love to hear suggestions or comments.
Thank you! My setup is:
1) mic: RODE NT3. MicPre: m-audio DUO
2) Sonar 3
3) reverb: lexicon (plugin that came with sonar3)
4) Pentium IV, 1gig ram
5) Sound card: m-audio 2496
6) Garritan personal orchestra sound library.
