Here's a question that is probably going to be quite straight to answer but I've been nothing but confused..

I've got one of these motu 2408 mk2's, and I've been running it with my old boy Seck 1882 for a year or so now, but that's died a terrible death. The question is about the analog input settings on the motu. I know I can run it at either -10db or +4db, If I wanted to run it with a modern Yamaha mg166c through it's insert outs, what setting should I have the motu at to get a decent level but without worrying about blowing something inside the interface.

I'm sure this will be an obvious answer, but I hope you can help

Cheers

This setting simply tells the MOTU whether to expect the incoming signal to be weak (-10dBV) or strong (+4dBu.) If this is set wrong then either the signal will be far too weak and unusable or the MOTU will be boosting more than necessary.

The short answer is +4dBu.

The long answer is...it depends upon the gain setting of each channel. Ideally they would be set correctly providing near +4dBu output.
