MOTU 2408 and Behringer ADA8000

I've been running my studio with the old MOTU 2408 Audio, so I bought the ADA8000 to add more tracks. I have it hooked into bank B of the MOTU through ADAT in. On the ADA8000 I have the switch on the back to 44.1 khz, but I dont think that's right beacuse isn't is supposed to be a slave to the MOTU rather then Master/Locked? Anyways, I have the clock source set to internal on the MOTU as it's always been set, and I set bank B as ADAT in the MOTU PCI control panel. I'm using Nuendo to record, and all the mics/inputs I'm using through the Behringer have pops/clicks in the recorded track. I've tried setting the clock source to ADAT, and Bank B Optical and none of that works, the 44.1 and 48 khz lights just blink on the MOTU. The only way it actually records is if I have it set as mentioned above and I'm getting digital clipping and popping and I don't know if I need to change any settings or if anyone else had any problems like this? Any help would be very greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Have you tried the Behringer at 48? Does your bit rate match?

The post was a little confusing as which you set to what...

I'd recommend motu as master @ 24 / 48... Behringer as slave with the same rate and freq

When I was trying to figure out how expand my system I tossed the Berhinger and the Presonus D8 up in the air...
The Berhinger looked too cheap so I decided not to get it and this may be your problem. But for me, I have no problems when I connect the Presonus D8 to my TASCAM FW-1884 and just leave it like that...

I think you may be over thinking the whole thing a bit, If you turn everything off, plug the adat cable in and just leave it like that and turn everything on, they should be able to sync up together w/o any of your intervention...

With digital, it should sync up fine... The only thing is with 8 CH ADAT, you have to remember you can only get up to 48.000 khz so if the MOTU dosen't sync up to that automatically, then you may have to switch that.

Does your audio from the Berhinger appear like 2x as fast or something?

If this dosent help, It could be the gear just not wanting to work together, it happens sometimes...

But you may want to try everything at 24 / 44.100, which is CD Quality (it still sounds pretty darn good to me)

Hey guys, thanks for the posts. I'll make things a little clearer. All I did when I got the behringer was hooked the adat cable in and turned both units on. All the tracks (coming from motu and behringer) sync up fine timing wise, the only problem is digital pops and clicks in the recorded tracks of the behringer. I am operating in 48 khz so that's what i have the behringer set to as well. The only thing is that when you set the sample rate on the behringer, it acts as the master. The only slave settings are ADAT IN and Wordclock IN, then master settings 44.1 and 48. I think maybe I have to find a way to make the behringer work when ADAT IN is selected? However it does not work at all when that switch is selected. Maybe both units just don't want to work together? I've read about people using this unit with the Motu 2408 though so I just think something is not correct settings wise :S

I was going to make that suggestion. My father uses the Berri digital mixer with two ADA;s in a live environment, it it works great just sync'd over ADAT. I have the same mixer at home, going ADAT to an old Steinberg card. I was having lots of syncing problems, but Wordclock fixed it like a charm

I have just bought a Motu 2408 and ADA8000 and am trying to get them working with CEP 2.1. I have tried a number of combinations of settings on the audio console on the Motu PCI card but am getting nowhere. I am getting signal on the motu through the lightpipe from the ADA. I am sure it is something simple that i'm missing but i cant put my finger on it, and ive have no experience with any of these tools before.

Please help if you can

You will need to hook up ins and outs. Set motu internal and ada as slave (adat) That should do it!BNC clock will be steadier however

If the comp isn't seeing the signal, go into the PCI config, set one of the banks to adat. that should do it. Find those inputs on your DAW channel strip. Not used CEP before, but I am assuming it will accept all those inputs.
