Does anyone use either one or can give a comparison as to performance with at least 16 analog inputs with either the MOTU or Presonus. I want to convert analog 8 & 16 track reel to reel to digital with editing ?

They're 2 different types of interfaces. The 24 I/O is basically an AD/DA. You need external mic preamps. I don't believe it has ADAT I/O. And it uses the MOTU PCI-X (or express) card. The Firestudio has built in preamps and ADAT I/O. It uses firewire to connect.

edit: I see you changed your post while I typed this. If you're not needing the preamps or firewire connection, go with the 24 i/o. Or better yet, get 2 Echo Audiofire 12 for less and firewire.

I have used the Motu 2408 w/324 card for years and within the last year aquired a 1224 and the PCI-424.

I would go with the MOTU 24 I/O. The PCI 424 card will allow you to add up to three more units to that card, and if you need ADAT I/O in the future, the 2408 will take you there without having to reinvent your setup.
