...and I heard Michael Jackson is one of those well guitarist for his kind of music. Most people just don't know it. We can tell by his taste of pickin' a guitarist's he tends to be colaborated. Eddie Van Hallen, Jennifer B, Slash, Steve Lukather, etc... ;)

Daryl was good during his days with Ponty, Phil Collins, etc. but it his four solo CDs that makes him my favorite guitarist. He has great phrasing, melodies, songwriting, and he occasionally shreds a little bit. Daryl is a god

It's also kind of amazing that he's played on albums selling close to one hundred million copies and yet no guitar magazines do interviews of him ?

I am fortunate to have grown up in the same town as Daryl. Saw him in many bands locally before he teamed with JLP. He has a brother Duane who is a pretty damn good Bass player.
Having seen him live many times before ever hearing him on vinyl I can say with confidence.....

He can shred BIG time

And you are correct about him being one of the most neglected Uber players of his time!

Govi... look him up.
Hey I was reading the names and just learned Niel Young played lead. I always thought he just slopped the shit out of his E string.

If Danny Gatton had been more recognized he might still be alive today.:(

Yngwie Malmsteen, or actually Yngve Malmsten which is his real name is underrated I think. It's not just speed there.

Mick Ronson is another. He did some great work and never got the right credit for it.

Hans,

I think Steve Howe got the credit he deserved. As far as I know he's generally accepted as the best guitarist in the world ever, in both the skill and inspiration categories.

The guitarist from the New Bohemians was really good and never got any guitarist type recognition as far as I know.

I don't know how well regarded the Chilly Pepper's guitarist is but I think his stuff is excellent.

I hate to break it to ya... but when the New Bohemians' released "Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars", the guitarist had no idea that they ditched his solo on "What I Am" and brought in another guitarist until he heard the song on the radio.

Imagine the shock that must've been.

Pretty hard to get recognition when your biggest song wasn't you.

I laughed my ass off when I saw an interview with Crosby, Still and Nash where they were talking about bringing in Neil Young because none of them could play lead.

But who can laugh when "Harvest" sold something like 13 million copies? (Pretty big numbers for its time)

I'll second the notion about Alex Lifeson. Standing in the shadows of giants like Geddy Lee and Neil Peart make it kinda hard to get recognition.

Got to say it!!!

Tony Iommi!!! I've seen some video that can blow your mind. And he is missing a finger tip:eek:

Alex Liefson was rated as the #2 worlds best player by guitar magazine in the early 80's. I think at the time EVH had the top chair.

Many of these dudes everyone is listing have gotten gobs of recognition. Mind you many have not held the title due to the constant addition of new players.

Hell Prince is an under-rated player, but thats due to him being noted as a mastermind in other ways.

Brad Gillis... he can play anything.
Darren Householder is nearly an unknown but holy shit can he play.

Greg Howe blows the mind.

James Taylor is obviously known for his singing but has a gift with the fingers.

Dan Huff is totally respected as a studio guy but never really mentioned as an outright world class guitarist.

I don't know about that. From what I read, he was a chronic manic depressive. What he needed was help and probably not any more pressures from success. Either way, the guy kicked serious ass. I still marvel at his Austin City Limits show when he does the bottle slide with a full bottle! And then cleans up the neck with a towel as he's playing!
