Recenlty i've been thinking about setting up my own home "studio". Im somewhat familiar with recording, in that my friend had quite a setup in his own basement. He told me that the minimum I would need is a firewire audio interface (i only need to record from a keyboard and a guitar) a mic, a cheap keyboard, and the big one....a new comp, or atleast replace the entire tower. I was wondering what kind of requirements my PC would need, what the cheapest firewire audio interface is that I could find (maybe of ebay?) and what type of mic is best for quality, but wont run me a ton of money (preferably $70-$90 CDN). If someone could help me out, id appreciate it.

PS. My friend said he would burn all the programs for me like Cubase so dont include that in something id need to get.

My philosophy is, if you like and use the software, then support it by buying it. If your not willing to fork out money, theres other programs out there which can do a satisfactory job which you can download for free.

About what to purchase on the other hand, this board gets asked pretty much the same question everyday whether its for $5,000 or $50, so search it.

Unfortunatley I do not have the $10,000 to pay for all the software that my friend has. Quite franlky I could care less about you calling me a pirate because those companies make millions of fucking dollars a year, and if i could get it for free, why pay?

great concept (not)

You're right! Those oil companies are making billions, so I'm going to stop paying for gas too. I can't believe I actually pay for a lot of things - what a waste. In fact, I think that any company that has profits over a million dollars should be forced to give away their products for free. I have to go now - time to pick up my free BMW (those damn car companies make billions).

I apologize for feeding the troll, but I couldn't resist. I spent time in the early 90's working for a music software company - even before the days of ubiquitous internet, piracy was one of the contributors to our company's ultimate demise.

1:Those software prices pay the salaries of many of the people you are asking information of.

B:There is enough freeware on the web to not have to pay for or steal anything.

3: Basic web etiquette dictates that you lurk and search before asking a question. Doing so would have avoided your making a fool of yourself.

4) Common sense suggests that bullet points be preceeded by numbers, letters, or graphical bullets, and to stick with a single format throughout.

well...you've pretty much nailed your own grave as far as ever getting help here

If you are Software Cop then go and Do your Job and Bust him....If your Not then keep your "Opinions" to your self....Please!!

I can see if his actions were killing poeple but they don"t..

Now "Jaywalking" That Kills Poeple and is a Much more serious crime......

:D

PS: You can ask me for help anytime you want as I don"t judge poeple especially since everyone has Something hidden in the Closet and usually much more serious than this....

Duc: I agree with you 100%, If a Company makes a certain ammount of money and does nothing positive with it(for the Good of the World or at least there Employees) then they don"t deserve to have it......Then again I have allways been a Socialist and have been raised in a Socialist Democracy so these Ideals have allways been with me....

:)

You just don't get it.

And you never will.

Try working for years to develop a piece of software, then try to market it at a fair price (or through the shareware system) and see how you feel when idiots steal it anyway.

And if you were a true Socialist you'd know one of the fundamental differences between Socialism and Communism is Socialists are allowed to retain rights to their intellectual property while under Communism it all goes into a collective pot.

.

I saved up for a few weeks working part time to get Adobe Audition. If I can afford it working part time, anyone can.

If you don't want to spend the cash, then download Audacity or another freeware program that can do pretty much the same thing as most others.

You don't need ProTools to make good recordings. Sonar, Audition, Acid, etc. will get the job done just as good depending on your needs.

Software isn't nearly as important as your room, microphones, instruments, skill, preamps, etc. so maybe you should worry about that first.

Also, you're not stealing just from the company, you're stealing from the employees that work there and make the software, most, which because of piracy, are not multi-billion dollar companies.

Yes ..Life Sucks, But get used to it...This isn"t the Place for you let loose your own "Personal" gripes.....

If it bothers you so much then why not go out and start a Movement, Or the best Idea would be since you say you are a software developer 'Write Better security measures"....

If I person Leaves there Car door wide open and there keys in the car and no one is Looking you can not wonder why the Car gets stolen.....

The honor system doesn"t work on every one ,so you have to Lock your Doors to keep what is yours Protected.....

Another Thing software developers have to do is Shut down all those thousands of Chinese and Korean Sites that give "YOUR" software away...

No matter what Poeple will allways do what is easiest for them and For most poeple it is easier to click a Mouse a couple times and get what they want instead of Forking out Cash....

Make it so it is easier to pay for it than it is to Download by either takeing Infalible security measures or by shutting down the sites that make it easy for poeple to get free software.....

If if this isn"t done there is really only one group of poeple to blame.....

By the way, I do get most of my Software free but Legally as I used to work as a Video editor (Still do sometimes) and we get LOADS of free software sent to use by big corporations like Adobe and Macromedia ,Ulead ,Digitech ect and most of this software just sits in a Bin in the Coffee room and any one can have it....Some companies will send us the Same Full version of a Program 5 or 6 times in a Year hopeing that we will buy a Lisence for every editing workstation we have...A lot of these Free Programs Just end up in the Garbage...I actually had 4 Full versions of Adobe Premier Pro 1.5 at one Point all free, and with the Company I work for I can just Phone up any Software company I want and ask for a free sample and 9 times out of 10 they will send it to me allong with Many other thing they think we might be interested in....

But I guess when you are a Big company like the Ones I mentioned you can afford to give your shit away for nothing so I don"t feel Particularilly bad about Adobe.....

Ermgoti: I have a Legit version of adobe audition (a few of them) which I will Toss in the Trash for you and you can keep your Pirated version and Just think of it as a Lisense Transfer from me to you.....LOL

:)

Its really a personal preference that i buy the software i use whether its fair or not, its all comes back to the old saying do unto others, as you would onto you. Its not of a religious nature i say that, only that i'm in this industry and if a builder has to purchase tools to work on a house, if someone has to employ and pay a worker to work in their store, well i need to purchase what i need to work in my environment.

There's far too many people taking the easy way out by getting "cracked software". Sure, working in software is probably not the smartest career move, but regardless its immoral, its stealing, and everybody else does it. I don't want to be like that.

Also, software does not cost $10,000. Thats overexaggerating, even for retail. I have no issue with you doing it the way you want, thats not in my interest, i too could not care less. But that sort of thing should really be kept to yourself, especially as most people on this forum believe in buy what you use.
