OK, so I thought I'd try the mystical world of VHS mastering, since I don't have my mastering tape deck over the summer anyways. So I plugged the 4track mastering outlet into the "audio in" of the VCR, got it all set up, and did a test run. It seemed like it was working, because the music was coming out of the TV speakers, so I assumed it was running correctly through the VCR, because the 4track was plugged into the VCR, not the TV. But when I went back and listened to the tape, there didn't seem to be anything on it. I also tried it with several permutations of having the video "in" plugged into the TV cable, the video "in" plugged into the other half of the cable from the 4track, etc., with none of them working. Is this an indication that I don't own a Hifi VCR, or am I doing something wrong?

Hopefully the answer could be quick and simple! Did you switch your VCR to 'AUX' channel? Or a channel which is not used by a TV signal? I have been recording stereo dumps to VHS with a JVC, set to AUX channel, and a Sony, set to channel 1. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jonax, I think I'm just going to have to try it again with a bunch of different configurations. I was working with limited time last time so I just gave up pretty fast.
