I used Drumagog to replace the kick drum using 1 of my own samples. Yeah the kick is pretty rocky stylee. I did take alot of the 5K from the kick to make it less hard rock/metal although it is still pretty punchy.

Nice mix, i like your kick sound. Would you like to share your sample to us? :)

Is it just me, or does this kind of sound like something you'd hear in a skateboarding game? Or like, the theme song to Space Ghost Coast to Coast? Maybe it's just because I'm really tired...

Neat mixes you guys got going, and awfully crisp recordings... I personally like alittle bit of muddiness. I'll keep my hands off this, I'll probably just destroy your nice audio quality.

Nice sound you've guys going, though. Just wish the main guitar and bass riffs were alittle less repetitive.

Night flight, I like your mix's sound, but it loses me in a few places. I just wished it kind of... crunched alittle harder. The drum sounds alittle disconnected from the rest of the audio, particularly with some of the panning.

Jedit, yours has some AWESOME scratching noise going on in the beginning and some of the later parts. I don't really know what it is. Drum hits still sound awfully timid, though.

The scratching sound is a bass, i dont know it might be a recording "fault" but i boosted it because i liked it..what comes to drums, i tried to achieve modern sound to the drums so they are not so "boomy" i think it's a matter of taste :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Got it. I'll give it a try . . . maybe trying to emulate NL5's reverb/guitar sound . . . Won't be easy though.

Just wanna say thanks again to everyone for posting all the attempts, some good stuff on here. Good to see everyone learn.... still can't get my bass like that :o haha

Did you look at the picture I posted with the exact settings for the bass?
If you have the same plug ins as me then it will be easy to get the same sound. If you have different plug ins it might be a bit harder to get the same bass sound.

Good luck!

Not many people have 3k worth of waves plugs........... especially when the UAD plugs sound so much better......

The UAD plugs have terrible control. I love the way that waves plugs are so easy to control.
Waves have a very good Q control compared to UAD, UAD have pretty slack Q which can sound better but if you know how to use Waves Q then you can get great results.

I'm not sure that I follow what you are trying to say. There are many EQ's available with the UAD cards. The Q control on some of the plugs is just as tight as Waves. I do like the waves LinEQ though. I wish they'd sell it separately, although WUP is a royal pain.

Anyway, back to the topic.... :D

Sorry my mistake. I was thinking of the URS EQs, although they sound smooth the Q is pretty slack. Not had a chance to try UAD yet although I have heard good things about them.

ps. what is WUP?

Thats the Waves Diamond Bundle right? nooo I don't have that. I have whatever came with Sonar 6 and some free-bees like Glaceverb and some Kauherus (or however its spelled) plugs.

Thanks Nick.
A true magician never reveals his secrets,
but I'm no magician I'm an audio engineer. :)

Really nice mix... wish I could get that kick sound.. I've tried and tried but it has some other pieces leakage and that is driving me crazy... How in earth did you make that clacky sound from that track?

Please, reveal your magic! :D

Here's mine

I used 1 of my kick samples but kept the original dynamics so it sounded like a real kick drum. I didn't use any of the old kick as it was just causing too much phasing and nasty sounds.
I used Drumagog and hey presto!

Drumagog? That's cheating man! Hahaha... no way, just kidding. That's great idea... as you said, the recorded kick sound terrible to me. I don't have the software you're using but... I will have some time this weekend so I'm gonna redo the bass drum part in BFD... and post a new file when it's done.

A year or so back I would have thought of drum replacement as cheating but the "pros" have been doing it for years.

Maybe you can't seem to get "that bass sound" because the rest of your mix is different from mine. Just a thought I could be totally wrong! :o
