Yeah it's me again. Sorry I haven't posted lately but things are starting to move again. Between contractors and budget ..... never mind :D

Just mounted all the track lights in the live room last night. I'll be wiring them in tonight. They're really looking good and the room is really taking shape.

Already painted the suspended ceiling grid (very dark navy blue). I'm picking up the ceiling tile (128 pieces) in about an hour. We will start painting them tomorrow (dark navy blue). Of course we'll put down plastic and lay them on the floor to paint and dry. I'm sure if we painted them outside the sun would curl them (wet on one side, dry on the other). The tile is Armstrong Cortega (?) non-directional at $2.16 each if anyones interested.

More pics soon. I promise I'll put them in one thread this time :D

So far, so good. The track lighting is wired (finished about 30 minutes ago). I think they really look good and will allow me a lot of flexibility in lighting the room. I might add a single track in the middle of the room at the peak if I need more light in the center of the room. We'll see.

We decided not to paint the ceiling tiles at this time. The ceiling grid is dark navy blue and gives a good contrast to the white ceiling tiles. I'm afraid if we painted the ceiling tiles it would darken the room too much. I want a good "vibe", not a cave. :D

All the ceiling tiles in the live room should be installed in the morning. Then I can get back on ventilation ductwork again!!!

The ceiling has been installed (except for a couple of odd cut tiles). It really looks good especially with just the track lights on. Gives the room a nice "vibe." This pic doesn't do justice because I had to use the flash. Next pic will be without flash but it's kinda dark.

Next pic. It's really a lot lighter than this but my digital camera isn't that great in low light. You'll get the idea anyhow.

Looks pretty darn good Don!
I like the black in the ceiling with the black track lighhts! Looks good.

Scaffolding!!!!
That's what I need now.

question?

hey DigitalDon !

wondering what you have used on walls, is it cloth or something else?

Michael - There's absolutely no way I could have done this without scaffolding. Tall ladders were out of the question since the ceiling peaks at 14 1/2 feet!! It's really comfortable to work on scaffolding too.

Newboy - That's paint on the walls. It's called Glidden Deep Garnet and really looks good. The track lights give the whole room a warm glow. I have flourescents also but only for use during band practice, etc.

Hi Don,
your studio is really nice.
The lights, can you dimm 'em, or are they just standard lights. And if you have dimmers with them, what sort did you use?

thanks

Sen - No I didn't use dimmers. I really didn't want to deal with issues like buzzing dimmers or pay big bucks for dimmers that don't buzz. I arranged the track lights in such a way that I don't need dimmers. I also used 50 watt flood bulbs to keep the light level down. It really looks "warm" in there. In fact I will probably add a light on 2 of the tracks pointing to the room center as it's a little dark there.

Don,
yeah I thought if you hadn't it would be coz of the buzzing and stuff. You're right, the good dimmers are very expensive.
I guess you can allways switch some on and off to get the right atmosphere. Your place is indeed looking good, please keep us updated as you go.:)

good luck
