OK, so upgraded to 5.1, had some pops and clicks, got some sound advice here, adjusted buffers/mpc, all pops and clicks gone. Now it seems that some songs just refuse to open. I go to open them and Cubase just freezes up. Don't know if it's related but recently recorded and attempted (unsuccesfully) to export friends 45min DJ set. Is this too long of a file for Cubase to be handling: exporting? Is this related at all? The computer shouldn't be the issue: 128mb, pIII 800mhz, 30 gbhd; nor should soundcard: audiophile 2496 (delta series). Don't know if anyone knows of a pretty little patch for such problems, but I need help desperately.

Much thanks,

Laj

No idea. You might want to post that question on the Cubase forums at cubase.net... Sorry that I'm no more help.

Suicide an option

OK,

-Posted everything on Cubase.net, nothing.

-Talked w/ those ever helpful Cubase customer service reps, nada

-Reformated all hard drives, nope

-Removed virtually all non Cubase-related programs, uh, uh

-Read several (very informative mind you) web sites to learn about those evil little IRQs I've come to so despise, sorry

So now I wait as Steinberg tries do determine if the songs I e-mailed them are corrupted or if perhaps it's just the PC, wouldn't that be wonderful! And best of all it rains alot here in Seattle.

PLUR

Hi Laj,

You're not alone out there !! I had exactly the same thing happening to me. Save a song and its gone forever !! Not on the HD, but cubase cannot retrieve it and eventually hangs !!!! Not to mention the snap, crackle and pop while playing back !!
I think their program has a major bug. The Cure. Uninstall Cubase completely and reinstall Ver. 5.0R4 (if that is what you had - and WAIT - till a patch sees the light, or Steinberg admit the flaw, and improve the current revision.

Hey man, so do you mean that right now you are unable to use Cubase at all? If so then that just plain sucks! I know that I am very tenative about working on anything new in fear that it may just get corrupted soon like the others. Misery has foud me!

Hi Laj,

No, I do use Cubase 5.0R4 and it works like a charm! It may be something in the ver. 5.1 that is not ironed out completely - I think that more people might have the same hiccups ! The only difference I found between 5.0 and 5.1 is a couple of VST effects that does not work in the old Ver. 5.0R4, but then , The moment I realized someone else also has a problem, I uninstalled it, and reinstalled V.5.0R4 - and wallah !!! To me it's still more usefull than the newer version.

Hope you have joy eventually - hang ten, I'm sure an answer is on it's way.

thanks for the encouragement man, I actually haveR6, think it makes a difference? I hope not cause I'm just going to start working on stuff again in hopes of no crashes. I agree that 5.1 doesn't offer too terribly much more except headaches, so far anyways. Thanks again for offering a bit of reassurance

That's really curious- I upgraded to 5.1 from v5r6pb7 and have had no problems at all: all my tunes work fine, and save fine. I did have a few buffer and latency changes to make in myaudio setup to get rid of sporadic clicks, but that was because I had my latency trimmed down to the absolute min- I had to go up to 12 ms, but that's hardly a showstopper in my application.

I'm really sad that Steinberg has been unresponsive. Keep after them on the Cubase.net forums: they *will* get back to you eventually.
