OK, So i'm probably going to get a MXL condenser. Probably that home desktop thing that can be found http://www.guitarvision.com/mf/mf_frameset.htm Search MXL V63MBP Desktop Recording Kit

OR

A MXL 990 and a Tube MP Professional Mic preamp/Processor. On this would I just need like the cords and that's it or is there any phantom stuff I'm not aware of.

Which one?

Remember I'm hooking it right into my soundcard. Which one would be the best to use for quality and all that good stuff.

Electric guitar(mostly)/vocals

COMMENTS WOULD BE APPPRRECCIATEDD GREATLY!! I'M RIPPING MY HAIR OUT.

the MXL 990 does need phantom power....what kind of soundcard are you hooking into? If it is a stock soundcard for a pc, i would suggest getting a cheap soundcard, stock pc cards are crap sounding for recording. The M-Audio Mobile Pre hooks up to USB, has a preamp, has phantom power. I think there is a tascam thing that is very similar.......hope that helps

ps- i don't personally like either of these options, but if I had to choose one, I would go with the preamp.....the first one doesn't have a preamp, and you can't do that with a microphone....you'll get no volume. ALSO you still need the phantom power. Most LDC's need phantom, although some are battery powered. The MXL 990 is not a bad mic, I use one every now and then, but you need a better setup (a soundcard that's decent and has preamps, or a soundcard that's decent and an external mic preamp).

That first option though, does it need phantom power? because it claims that it can stand alone.

What would be a cheap soundcard? I mean cheap 50 lower.

The first choice I had says that it can run on battery.

Also does a preamp supply phantom power? Or do I need somethign else to get that power?

Why not just get a SM57? Cheap good way to mic a guitar, and it's usually passable/ok for vocals too.

Any condenser mic will require phantom power, but the the ART tube MP does supply it.
