Im probably gonna get a Lexicon Omega interface soon. It says you need 128 MB of ram exactly, but 512 recommended, or something like that. Im pretty anxious to get it, so if i do...how will i know if i need to get more memory? My friend said i'd probably be able to get a decent amount of tracks but not use a lot of fx, which isnt a big deal to me...but if i got it and didn't get more memory, am i likely to be dissapointed with how i performs? Thanks for any help.

The more RAM the better. My 98SE stuttered on 256MB but my XP runs great on 512. When I can afford it I'll go to 1024. RAM is good. Lots is better. Too much is almost enough. Audio tracks eat a lot of RAM.

I see. It makes sense, what youre saying. Im just anxious to have this and mess around, and get to make mp3's of my music. My friend said if i buy it at the right store theyll just put the memory stick in for me for free, so I'll probably end up doing that. It's just the $....ill have enough for the omega soon, but another hundred bucks may be anothe 2 weeks. Should i get them both at once, or memory first, or the omega first and see how it runs? Other opnions?

Listen to me and listen well.

If you dont know how to put a stick of memory in, you MUST do the following.

1) Get online. Start reading about computer hardware.

2) open your comp. Look inside. See how things are.

3) get online some more. Read, read, read.

4) look inside again.. ID every part. EVERY part!!

that is all. Putting in memory is cpus 101.

Why learn when if i need to buy a stick, the store I get it from will do it for free?

You can probably get your memory cheaper from crucial.com (with free shipping as well). You will be better off learning your way around a motherboard. Also, do you want to have to lug your PC into the store? How do you plan on installing your audio interface? (If it's PCI). Good luck with whatever you end up doing!
