More Equipment???

Im currently using/ working with;

Cubase SX
Presonus Firepod
Active Behringer Monitors
MXL 990 mic
Sony VAIO PC

I'm still very new to the music recording game. I'm not sure if I need more equipment to get a really big good sounding final product, and if I do need more equipment, what should I look at getting and how will it compliment/ benefit my current setup? I am seriously looking at buying a MPC 2000. I do know a couple of folks that have been in the music business, and they say you cant compare the way a MPC sounds as far as crispness, and quality to any other drum machine/ sampler. Plus right now I can get a good price on a MPC 2000 with maxed out memory, so it's hard to pass it up! After that, I'm not really sure which direction to go in as far as upgrades etc, or even if I need them.

Also, can someone break down Compresssion/ Compressors in simple terms for me.

What you need to do is get a better mic. That mic isn't good at all, I suggest the Shure KSM32. Instead of getting the MPC2000, you may want to up your recording equipment game. But if you can get a great deal on that 2000XL get it but make sure you get yourself a MIDI Interface to hook it up. But if I were you I would want to step up the recording equipment. Like get yourself a converter.
 
buy new monitors. It doesnt matter how nice that mpc sounds if you cant hear it very well.

The behri's aren't that bad...

What you probably do want to consider is some acoustical treatment of your room. At a minimum some panels to create a reflection free zone at you mix/listening position. It doesn't matter how nice the monitors sound if your room is effing up the imaging and response.
 
And more than anything else...you need EXPERIENCE. You can't hand a 4 year old a paintbrush and expect them to paint the Mona Lisa. Learn to use what you have, and then see about getting more equipment.
