mono to stero

I have been recording using Mixcraft & Beatcraft thru my M-audio preamp. But since I started using this program I only get a mono recording, even though the setting is set to stereo. What am I doing wrong. On can I change everything to stereo later maybe during mixing or something. Not real sure how to word it.

A mono signal can never "become" stereo. It can become a component of the stereo image of a song at mixdown, but it can never be stereo in and of itself.

A stereo signal has to be recorded that using stereo mic'ing techniques... a mono sound can't become a stereo sound.

Panning, panning, panning. That's how mono recordings become stereo. As mentioned above, if you want to record in stereo, you need more than one mic. Or you need to record the track twice and pan them left and right.
