alright, i hooked up my new firepod last night, and made a basic acoustic recording...in adobe audition 1.5, the problem: everything records in mono and therefore only plays back through the left speaker...maybe this is normal, but with my old shitty radioshack mixer, all the microphone input was put on both left and right channels...is this a problem of my software (it doesn't handle ASIO), my firepod, me? any help is appreciated...

You probably recorded only one channel to a stereo track in your recording s/w. Use a mono track for single-channel sources.

yup Blue speaks true. i don't ever record in stereo (there are places to but i don't have any use for it). If you think about it, a microphone, recorded in stereo is just recording the same thing twice, once on the left channel and once on the right channel. You are not getting any extra information, just uing up twice as much disk space. In adobe arm the track for recording and select mono insted of stereo.
When you have all of your mono tracks recorded, pan each one as you see fit and then mix done to a final stereo track.

Record mono sources to mono tracks and use panning to place the playback in the stereo field.

Recording stereo sources is usually only done when you are trying to capture the sound of a good room, and it's usually something you wouldn't be doing in a home studio.
