Hi, you probably get these kind of questions all the time, but hey.. I'm setting up my first little studio thing, and already have a yamaha mg16/6, and need some monitors.. The kind of stuff I will be doing will be guitar/vox/bassy/electronic kind of stuff.. think gorillaz meets jimi hendrix...
I was looking at the yamaha HS80M's.. are they crap?.. if anyone has any better suggestions please let me know... the price range is about £300 (about $600)..
i know the best thing to do would be compare the sounds of them all, but im not in a situation to do that...
Thanks very much..

i've been trying a few and i haven't noticed a huge difference between them. i have noticed burn out setting in from delving into details too much! so your wise in not listening to all of them. :)

as i was told many times, the difference is there, but you have to learn the monitors no matter what.
so get something YOU like the sound of. my 2 cents...

Monitor HR Holy Grail..imo: quote i read:
Very accurate in that what I mix on these sounds the same in my truck, in my office and on my stereo. Used to have some "brand X" that sounded good in the studio but never sounded the same elsewhere

$300us range-
never heard the Wharfs, but I've tried the BX5,RP8,JBLC5,YSM1P$380,RAM,BW303$150 at home...and several GC store hours. Heard a mix on the B2031a's and the mix was frkn amazing. Another PM said they went with the 2031a's $339....
KRK RP8's are on sale $300US, which are BIG, Powerful..i luv'd the sound.
Yorks Im test driving are very pleasing to MY ears. They have really high reliabilty per the web, which is why i just had to try 'em.

I have had a few that were very hard to translate with, for me...YMMV.
