I know a really good set of monitors will cost a nice chunk of change...but for now..while i save for a nice set...I want to spend about $300 or so on something to get me by...any suggestions???

That's what I paid for my Event TR5 active monitors. I love them, but you will get a better low end definition with a larger speaker - 8" or so. I cetainly got my money's worth.

I now have a pair of Fostex PM05's. They can be had for about $250. and sound very smooth. I compared them to a pair of M-Audio BX5's and I liked the Fostex's much better.

While I still test mixes on several different pairs of speakers, I can tell the PM05's are going to get me in the ball-park very quickly.

BTW Fostex has been making speaker drivers since 1949.

The CM2 can be found for $50-80 and sounds like a better sounding NS10 with much more detail and with a nice low end which a NS10 doesn't have.

The ALS40II is one of the best sounding monitors I've listened to so far. A very balanced sound, very delailed, the lows are almost perfect and you can listen to these monitors for long periods of time without getting fatigue. Can be found for $100-150. (pair)

They're rare and vintage speakers that were produced in the late seventies/early eighties. The drivers are Kef, which can be found in many hi end speakers.
