I know it is a matter of preference. But which are you more comfortable with and why?

For one, the bigger the better. Make sure you get a GOOD one with DVI, I'm a fan of the Dell Ultrasharps and they are real affordable and have a 3 yr warrenty. I got my 17" on a special for $325 shipped about a year ago and it has been great

For 2, I would say 2 x17". 2 19"s you have the issue of having to turn your head to see the other end of the screen which gets old fast, I kinda prefer to have everything in my line of vision

I just got an UltraSharp 19"....they RAWK!

Dell just had a sell on those but it just ended. My son has a Samsung which also has a nice pictire.

I'm running dual 20's at work.

Tiger Direct
Tiger has alot of garbage, so dont go crazy there but watch for these to go on sale. I know 2 ppl that bought them when they were $199 on 2 different occasions and they are pretty nice monitors

If you catch them at the right time Dell constantly puts the 20.1" widescreens on sale. I think I snagged mine just before christmas for 415 and just a few weeks earlier they were like 485. It's a sweetass monitor, only problem is I get a bunch of jerk off musicians saying "dude you gotta dell". When its actually "Franken-Packard". Actually the only parts that are original to the HP are my cd and dvd rom drive. Why the hell did I get off on this?

Go with the 19"

In fact, get 2 of them. When I got tired of the RF coming out of my old CRT, I got a 15" LCD, thinking, it's only waveforms being displayed...

It didn't take me long to move up to a 19. Now I want another.

I've got dual LCDs as well. 17in and 19in on a dual lcd stand thingy, so they float above my workspace, it rocks, I'll never go back to CRT if I can help it.

Personally i use this 19" widescreen TFT:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...728507/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/026-0249957-3730834
and a 17" Philips DVI TFT

Loving the widescreen and can honestly say that going VGA is not a problem. Would like to have two of them really.

2 19"s you have the issue of having to turn your head to see the other end of the screen which gets old fast, I kinda prefer to have everything in my line of vision

altitude909 you are sitting too close if this becomes an issue.

19inch is alot better because you can raise the resoulution higher and you can see more stuff with less scrolling with the mouse. Bigger is better.

My 17 will pull the same resolutions as my (and most other) 19s, bigger isn't always better imo.

I bought a 19" Sylvania F89 from costco about 6 years ago for $300! (at the time, that was actually a VERY good price!!!)

Last year, I got a KDS Visual Sensations unit that looks IDENTICAL to the Sylvania for $30 off of craigslist.

I can find working 19" monitors on craigslist all day for $50 each or less. Coupled with a decent dual video card for less than $50, I have a dual 19" monitors that work just fine for less than $150! :D

Yup, the Sylvania is STILL working great!

This is a LOT of screen real estate! No squinting here! :D

Also, for working in DAW's, dual monitors that are BIG offer MANY advantages! Having your mixer view seperate from your track view. Having plugins seperate from either the mixing or track views. It is WONDERFUL!!!

Really, bigger IS better for DAW's! The FACT is that the same screen resolution on a 17" and a 19", on the 19", everything will be BIGGER! This is far less stressful on your eyes.

Yep, I run dual 19" LCD's and I could NEVER go back to a single monitor - You can find two 19" CRT's for less than $200 I'm sure.

If you are not able to spend more than $200, get any good name brand 17" and you are done. Just remember that LCDs only really look good in their native resolution, make sure that is high enough to display what you need. With most 17" the native resolution is 1024x768; with most 19" its 1280x1024.

as always, you get what you pay for if your looking into those unknown brand monitors. 17" is ok but once you go bigger you will not go back. I have two 21" trinitron CRT's. I will never give them up for smaller LCD's. and the cost of 21" LCD monitors is a bit expensive. also Ive seen LCD's with 800x600 native res. my gosh its eye straining to look at it at 1024x768.
