Monitoring with headphones,
Now I know it aint the way to do it, but lets just say you had to.
Has anybody got any recommendations on brand and model?

Beyer look good to me, DT 100, DT 250 or maybe Audio – Technica, AKG ???

Your thoughts please.

Alan.

I've got the DT250's. I bought them after reading about them being headphones you could monitor on in a pinch. They sound good, but I don't use them for monitoring (a mix). They emphasize the bass, push vocals right up and mess with the overall balance - just like any other headphones. I'm glad I bought them, but for monitoring, I really don't know.

BTW, thanks for your response to my cables in the UK thread of some time ago. Bolton's a bit far away, but I may get over there yet.

Why isn't it the way to do it?... That doesn't make any sense to me Alan?????

I always monitor with Cans in my studio, for almost every aspect of tracking.....Everyone mostly does..

Are you talking about mixing maybe???

Anyways....Personally, I suggest Audio Technica..... Try them all, your ears need to be the judge...

IT's not that you can't monitor with cans -- it's that you don't want to make any sonic decisions on tone or levels using ONLY headphones....

Yeah, Exactly what I had in mind Bruce...... Monitoring through cans is only so the musician can hear what he is doing without "open air speaker" monitors bleeding into the Mic... Definately no mixing or tone desicions should be made with them...

Thank you

Gentlemen, thank you.

Actually I’m talking about doing both via headphones (monitoring and mixing)
Believe me this is not by choice (NS 10’s are nearer the mark) but right now, noise and the time I’m making all the noise, location, is a bigger issue.

Bruce,
I will investigate the 770 pro and thank you for that.

The cables issue, I was thinking more along the lines of you phoning these guys and they would stick them in the post.

Your right I should just let my ears be the judge, the problem here is that I can’t just walk into Mars, Sam Ash or similar and go through all the options armed with a reference CD.
Here you have to know in advance what you want, then figure out how to get it.

I’m off to Saudi Arabia for two weeks this Friday, so I’ll get on to it when I get back.

Thanks again guys,

Alan,
