I, like many others here am too poor to afford monitors right now. So, here are my options as they stand right now. Can someone let me know if there is something that I'm not considering?

Option #1- On my computer, I have a Lexicon Core sound card for inputs, and outputs to monitors, (if I ever get some,) and, I've got a Sound Blaster AWE64 GOLD. Ancient, I know. But, it's got left and right RCA outs on it, and I run that into my stereo receiver, and listen through my home stereo, with no sound fields selected. (It's a pro-logic receiver, Sony brand. Also a few years old.)

Option #2- Headphones. From the many things I've read, this is a huge no-no, so I'm guessing option #1 is the better of the 2.

So, I'm guessing I know the answer between my 2 options, but is there something that I'm forgetting, or missing that could help me a bit more?

Thanks,

-Speedy

use both, if it's the best you can do for now, just be sure to do a lot of reference checking on other systems.

really, your home system isn't a horrible idea if its what you always listen to music on. It won't be precise, but you'll be able to use it to try to make your mixes comparable to the stuff you like to listen to.

Headphones won't kill you in a pinch either, the is with having speakers against your ears... they play tricks on you.

so...

choosing between stubbing your toe and biting your tongue...

go with your stereo : )
