monitoring problem?

right now im monitoring through headphones..and theres about a 1-2 second delay from when i speak to when i hear it...its impossible for me to record like that...is that how its supposed to be (i could never get monitoring to work in cool edit so iv never used it)...whats the problem?

Look in the manual (of your software and your interface) under "Latency."
 
thing is..it records fine...right on time..but i just hear it later..but ill def. check it out
 
right so i checked it out..checked my hardware latency

heres what i get:total input latency: 325.079 ms
total output latency: 44.218 ms

so basicly theres nothign i can do about that besides get a new soundcard?

or is it even the sound card thats causing the latency? im running my mic through dmp3 then lexicon mx200 then delta 44...

That is way too much latency. Try using the asio drivers.
 
I use the Delta 24/96 and have 8ms and its fine. Try the drivers
 
im getting the same problem and i have no $$$ to get A new soundcard so i just turn the volume right down on the track im recording in to and therefore i can hear the rest of the recorded tracks. it threw me right off at the beggining i thought i was playing wayyyy out of time :rolleyes:

Yeah I get 6ms with two delta 24/96's use the drivers like space said.
 
i tried changing it to delta asio..and the latency in/;out goes way down to like 8..but it doesnt work with that driver...it just doesnt record..doesnt recognize input?

I don't monitor while recording because of that. When I do bass direct, I just pop the headphones off one ear, and listen to the bass as an acoustic. Doing vocals, I just listen and sing (ok, yell) to the music through headphones and play it back to check.
 
just tried reinstalling drivers..and no diffrence..see the latency with the delta44 asio is only 6 ms..and that doesnt seem that bad....if only i could get it to work..but im not having any luck
 
it does sound a bit like when you switched drivers you didn't update the inputs inthe device settings. Check that and make sure you have buses on your project mapped to those inputs as well. i ende dup disabling the onboard sound on my mobo to avoid any confusion from that.

You have to go do Devices>Device Setup>VST Audiobay, and enable the direct monitoring check box.

That's as far as I got with my m-audio Audiophile, after that it's supposed to work all fine but now I can't get any input heard at all.
 
My latency was about the same as yours. You should download these ASIO drivers here: http://tippach.business.t-online.de/asio4all/. My latency went from 1.5 seconds to 13 milliseconds in Cubase! I was kinda pissed, having gone back to Windows from Mac, but this driver made me very happy.

I have a SigmaTel audio card in a Dell Inspiron E1705 notebook w/ Windows Media Center Edition for reference.
 
Multitracking/limited hardware

Hey Everbody :confused:
I am having a prob w/SL3. We're using a slightly older version of an Edirol A4-UX as our interface. But Cubase is not recognizing the ASIO drivers for the interface. (It keeps switching to the MMe Drivers). Should I just try to reinstall? I also Have an M-Audio Quattro. I have found that easier to use. Does any one use either of these? if so, Do you prefer one over the other? Also, this may seem like a dumb question. If you have multiple channels on a mixer, do you have to have multiple physical inputs on the computer (or interface,) in order to multitrack and mix effectively? Or do you have to pre-mix roughly before you go into Cubase? (kinda defeats the purpose, I know). Look forward to hearing everbodys input. Thanks
