Hi ,I have a mackie vlz pro (16) ,cakewalk pro 9,a 4 channel
headphone amp,and a delta 44 card.How do I monitor extra instruments while recording.If the 4 card inputs are taken and my busses are taken how do I monitor the rest of the band while the channels selected are recording.I don't want to record the extras just monitor them for the band to reference to.I also have a 12 channel mackie board. thank you in advance,this is a great site.
 
I'm a little confused on this one. Are you trying to monitor the tracks that are already on tape or additional scratch tracks that are being played live?

Tell me more specifically what you are doing and I can probably help. I've used mackies in just about every weird configuration possible.

I'm doing both.4 channels are recorded live(drums). Iwant the rest of the band playing as well but not recorded.My concern is the 4 channels going through my card versus the rest of the band not.I have my card set for 28 ms latency.Is there going to be a noticable delay,or is that too small a latency to worry about.I have not tried this yet but in theory i thought there would be a delay.
 
not too small, but probably too small to worry about. if you notice any problems during playback, you could always shift the track over the approprate ammount
