Seems the time has maybe come.

I got a decent Dell PC connected to the Digidesign Mbox and an MAudio keyboard controller. Much of the music is generated from a Roland JV1010 hardsynth, although I also record some electric and acousitc guitar. Also now have the room pretty well treated acoustically (thanks to some major help given here) with corner bass traps and a couple of broadband absorbers.

All along though, I've been hearing everything through these.....

The Mbox has digital output, so as far as new monitors that would seem to be a basic requirement (versus analogue-only).

Also from the ads around the web, there appears to be a basic class distinction between "studio" versus "desktop" monitors. My room is 13 x 15 feet, and is more-or-less dedicated to recording. I also have the current monitors up on fairly decent stands (although being so small, they look kind-of rediculous there). Assuming "studio" is the superior class, does my space and gear warrant going that route?

Finally, cost IS an object. Must remain under $500 for the pair.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated ! ! !

Well a "Studio" monitor will actaully be used for Monitoring were "Desktop" monitors are basicly just regualar speakers for listening to CD"s on.....

In the $500 Range you can get some Pretty descent monitors:

Any of the above monitors will be better than what you have and in this case the Price pretty much sums up the Quality (More expensive = Better quality)..

You should bring a CD or some music you are very farmiliar with to your music store and listen to it on a Bunch of different monitors so you get an idea which monitors translate the sound better, and the good thing about buying retail is if you don"t like them after a few days just take em back and get some new ones......

You will be surprised at how much good monitors will translate to better mixes...

Good Luck

:D Yo Scotty:

Just for fun, check out the price of WHATEVER pair of monitors you choose with FULL COMPASS.

Nope! I don't work there. But, I do buy some gear there and have almost always been quoted the best price. [Plus on monitors, if you "ask," you can probably get FREE shipping, which amounts to a few pizzas.

I recently bought my EVENT-8s from FC. Free Shipping. But, go wherever you feel comfortable.

Green Hornet

Thanks. These look like good steers.

Can't tell though whether any of these models have digital input (S/PDIF). I'd really like to use that feature of my Mbox if at all possible/affordable.
