What are the materials required to build a solid monitor stand for my RP5's? Should it be steel or wooden frame?

I've seen home made monitor stand made of wood, steel and even PVC.

I'm a fan of wood for many reasons - 1) with limited skills you can build a very nice looking stand 2) wood is more organic and I think more accousticly friendly in a studio 3) wood simply looks good in any run.

Natrially wood and/or steel could get heavy (wheras PVC can be lighter) - however, normally once the monitor stands are in place they don't have to be moved very often.

I suspect if you go to the studio builing forum you may get more responses and there may even be some sample specs.

personaly i use the big speaker stands ,but i converted them to my studio :D

I can adjust the hight on these babies, but some costom work required :)

I made these using steel and wood! :) These are my stereo speaker stands in my lounge room!

Here's the ones I made for my monitors out of wood and steel!

I think I will cut them down and mount them on my new desk when I get it!

Did you use threaded rod to fasten the wood and tubing?

Yes, I used threaded rod to fasten the base and the speaker base to the Stainless steel pipe!

How did u manage to stick the steel to the base wood?

I drilled holes in the wooden base on the floor and the base that the speakers sit on and put threaded bar through the whole lot and then recessed the holes in the wooden bases to take the nuts on the threaded bar, so the wooden base and the speaker base are clamped together with the Stainless Steel pipe in between.

Did you get circle drill bits and use it on the base? Like are the drill bits the same diameter as the steel tube?
