I'm sure this will seem like a really silly question, but I've only recently started building my own home studio. I run Cubase 5.0 on my PC w/ various other software programs(Fruity Loops, Unity Piano, Mix Meister, Cakewalk), have Korg Triton, Mackie 1202, various mics, among other little toys. I read alot about how your room needs to be the right size so as to be able to have the cleanest sound out of your monitors. Now here's the question (finally), does the sound coming out of your monitors matter as much if you're just doing the recordings on your own with instruments that are never miced, ie no guitars, few vocals, mostly keyboard stuff and drum machines. What I mean is does the shape of your room matter at all if you mostly use headphones while recording except in the end when remastering? I guess this wasn't as nearly as concise of a question as I would have hoped. Maybe someone out there can understand my erratic brain and give me and answer, much thanks for reading a ridiculously long question.

laj,
there are a lot of factors involved, but to put it simply...........if you have recorded more than 1 track and ultimately want to mix them down as a stereo recording then monitors are almost the only way to get a true indication of the recorded sound.
Headphones, hi-fi speakers etc all have some characteristics that "colour" the sound. As far as the room size, etc goes, that's another story. I suggest you have a good look at the info on this site;.......http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
