I just got my first pair of monitors(M-audio Sp-5bs). I have always heard people say that good monitors dont always make your music sound good, but they will reveal the true mix which is important. Previously I have been doing my mixdowns on my home stereo(nice big Bose speakers), Computer speakers, or headphones. While doing it this way, I had EQ control, so I would(probably incorrectly)be tweaking the EQ on my playback source to get it to sound good.

Now that I got my "real" monitors, I can hear all of the parts much better, but to be honest, when I play back some finished mixdowns that I am completely satisfied with, that I have tested on multiple sources, they sound kinda harsh on the sp-5bs. Is this normal, or should it sound better?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

The Sp's should sound pretty flat...at least mine did. They are not designed to color the sound but give you a reference to the true sound. I wouldn't crank them up too loud either or they will distort, its only a 5" cone.
