Momma Don't Worry

The mix sounds really good to me. The only thing I was thinking when I was listening was that the drums, especially the snare, might be a little too up-front, and dry sounding. It's not enough to take away from the song or anything, but I am wondering if the whole mix might settle a little better if the drums were a little further back in space...?

Cool tune!

Best,

Dave

Very nice tune Bob, the vocals are good, it has a nice lively feel, and a fun flavor.

The snare isn't too loud for me, it just sounds electronic, and therefore should probably be pushed back a little, but it'll depend on the speakers also.

It appears that Mamma songs could be your thing, this is cool!

Regards,

Another fun tune brother. Has almost a Roy Orbison feel, a little dark yet boppy and fun. The vox are real good, could even be a touch louder. Really enjoyed the listen!

I really liked the song. Fun to listen to. LIked the bass. Liked the little lead licks. Liked the Skype lines. Liked the harmonies.

I'd pull one of doubled lead tracks back a good 6-10 dbs. Make it less obvious that it's doubled. There's also a little flab to it. I'm thinking a small cut somewhere in the 300-600 octave might tighten it up.

Hey thanks for the spin Dave. I might be able to push the snare back a bit with EQ and volume. I pre mix the drums and record a stereo track from a Tascam 2488, so once it’s recorded I am limited to what I can do to individual drums.

I hadn’t heard this one in a couple of months and that opening snare crack really jarred me yesterday. Like – hello – wake up fool.

Hey Stephen – appreciate the comments. This is the first take. have tried a bunch of remakes and for the life of me I can not get that original “nice lively feel, and a fun flavor”. But it’s been about four months since I started so maybe with a long break I can get it back.

Electronic snare eh? Hmm. – that remark I haven’t heard yet.

Hey Pete – louder vox? No problemo – thanks for listening.

Hey Trip – yeah the vox are sloppily mixed, it sounded too thin or too thick; couldn’t find the right balance. I’ll take your suggestions and see what I get.
Appreciate the spin.

+1 for the vocals being a touch louder Manslick.

Nice rounded mix and you have to at least complete a mother trilogy now. The lyrics lull you into a sense of timelessness until the fantastically incongruous 'hook up there on skype' line comes in. Triffic :D

Thanks Rob. If I pull the drums back a bit then the vox should peek out a bit more.

The lyrics were just bits that came up in various noodling for chords. As luck would have it, my Son in law is in Iraq and my daughter and her kids do the skype thing all the time.

I think I remember somebody saying something about paying attention etc and you pick up things... I don't know.

A momma trilogy. Now I have a mission. :)

Pretty good mix.
My only nit is that the lead vox is obviously doubled. I'd turn one of them down a bit to try to make it sound like one, full voice.

Was that line "if the clouds are just right, you can hook up there on Skype?" Is that clouds as in water vapor in the sky or trendy term for the Internet?
Either way, I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding how Skype works! :D

Hey VHS - yes the vox are pretty much in need of some rethinking, remixing and maybe even re-tracking. Some days I like the obvious doubling and some days I don’t. In the interest of being normal, I agree, one needs to be pulled back.

Yes the clouds are clouds you see in the sky. I’m sure I completely don’t understand skype on any level except it is a way to communicate and that skype is a false rhyme with right. The concept at the moment was that momma wouldn’t understand it either but she would understand a reference to the clouds being right. So it’s moot as to what I understand fundamentally or otherwise.

I’m happy you bothered to mention it though.

There is still one part of this lyric no one has mentioned and I’m little intrigued by that.

Thanks for the spin.
