Hello,
on the German Midiman HP (http://www.midiman.de/f_dmp.htm) you can read that a manual "for experts only" will be released soon, where you can read how to reduce the input sensibility of the DMP2 preamp. Does anyone know this procedure?

Man, I would be afraid I'd fry mine unless it was something very simple. The easiest solution for the clipping problem is just to get an inline XLR pad thingy. No risk, no permanent affect on the unit, and its still the best cheap pre for those low-output ribbon mics.

Dolemite,

I e-mailed M-Audio with this very same question a few days ago, because my DMP2 was clipping on the input while recording screaming vox (a la Filter) and drums. The guy who wrote me back was fairly unhelpful, and basically told me to go get an inline pad (but hey, at least he wrote me back, right?).

So, I did just that; $25 at Mars Music. Not too bad, considering I only paid $79 for the thing to begin with.

The DMP2's output is too hot for my Fostex VF16. Would a pad on this balanced output do the trick, or should I just go unbalanced?

Would the mod reduce the balanced output of the DMP2?

The DMP manual says it's balanced output is +4 db and unbalanced is -10 db. The Fostex manual from what I can tell specifies a -10 db input balanced or unbalanced.
