I am looking forward to everyone's input on the following. There's just too much stuff on the market to choose from, so I'd like some advice and/or opinions.

I would like to purchase a mic preamp in the 750-1000 dollar range for use in a part time commercial studio. The unit must be 2-4 separate preamps with the usual features (phantom, polarity, etc.). Iwould prefer something in a 1-3 rack space size. The unit must be versatile enough to be used for micing anything and everything.

I thank you for your time and suggestions.

Im paying for color, Ive got a transparent one and Its nice to hear that on some instruments but for voice I like something warm.

I want one of the Davisound TB-6 units. Recording Engineer, the microphone forum moderator, whom I respect a great deal, has several Davisound pieces and swears by them. The TB-6 has four clean mic pres for about $750.

Yo Hill of Worship or Warship:

As long as you're willing to spend that much $$ on a mic pre, you must check out Martinsound.com. They make, at my last reading, two very good mic pres; one of them goes for about the top of your budget.

I don't have one; I haven't heard one; all I know is what I've read. Seems like nobody on this site owns a Martinsound mic pre.

So brother, give them a visit on the web and evaluate.

I have only heard good things about the Peavy mic pre, from the local guys.
