I was searching for the V69 and stumbled upon this thread.

My V69 is a bit noisier than it used to be, kind of a 100hz hum, so I opened it and found out it doesn't have the 12AT7, but a rather small tube which is soldered to the circuit board.

There's a clip with two small screws over the tube, so I couldn't see the type of it. Do I have kind of a special version of the V69 Mogami?

Does anybody know where this noise is coming from, can it be the power supply?

Thanks!
A faulty filter cap, etc on a pwr supply could cause hum.

Pic please...

HAN...Any chance you could post a picture of that tube in your V69?...I've upgraded the tubes in a number of MXL mics (an MXL 960, a few V69s and a V77 in which I installed a mini tube socket so that future tube swaps would be more easily applied) but I've never run across a V69 that fits that description...I found that the NOS 6072s work well...I also found some vintage Seimans E81CCs that also perform nicely...the NOS Mullard 4024s are another option (and very cost effective at about $13.99 each on Ebay)...

Han, that tube is a 5718. You have a 2nd generation version of the V69.
The noise may be coming from the tube. A lot of those tended to get noisy, which was one of the main reasons Marshall went to the 12at7.

Thanks a lot Brent, I'll contact my pimp about the problem.

@ kidvybes: My camera is broken.

Peace, Han
