So I'm planning to get a SP C1 (followed shortly by an RNC), but in addition to trying to start a mic locker, I'm expecting it will probably be too harsh on some of my higher vocal parts (especially some very high head voice stuff, I record a lot of metal, progrock) so I'm planning to compliment it with a darker/warmer/smoother LDC to be purchased slightly later, and my research has narrowed down my options to these three very differently priced options.

I hear for the price the MK319 is a solid cheap warm mic, and I'm seeing that as an option for having a warmer mic faster (budget concerns) and then possibly still buying a more expensive one later. I partially got this idea 'cause I saw a bundle on Ebay selling the BLUE Baby Bottle with a MK319 thrown in for free ($499), though I probably wouldn't take that offer since I have other discount sources.

The MXL V69 is a tube mic, which seems handy to have, and at $299 I could probaby get my hands on it a bit faster than the Blue mic, but I've heard concerns about its sound lacking some clairty or air, and I can't quite tell from the samples I've heard if I agree or not.

And then there's the Blue Baby Bottle which seems like a no brainer for quality and use, but with its higher price would take longer to acquire, and who knows if the V69 wouldn't do just as well for the purpose I've described.

Any thoughts? Anything I'm overlooking? I doubt I have strong enough pres (Omni Studio DMP2ish) to take advantage of something like the Shure SM7 I hear about so much or another dynamic, so I'm primarily looking at LDCs here.

My big obstacle with saving up is trying to get a project done within the next few months, and having a budget to consider. I can get any of these eventually, but I don't want my project to take forever, and I want the best vocal results I can get within my timeframe. Also, the Baby Bottle is the only one that I'm sure the closest GC has, and which I might attempt to audition, though without purchasing it there I'm not sure if I can get away wtih that (and not feel like a jerk).

Why not get an AT4040 which is kind of in between the C1 and Baby Bottle? It seems complementary to male vocals but it works in a lot of situations where the Baby Bottle would fit the bill.

The MK319 is OK. It's a fairly flat mic. Yet, AT4040 the AT4040 and Baby Bottle outclass it.

I see AT4040 on eBay everyday new for $235. Mine was $225 from eBay on a lucky deal, but before the big price drop.

Figures

No matter, as AT4040 my AT4040 is a permanent addition to my locker. I'd kinda like to have another one for a pair... but I'm more inclined toward an AT4047 for a different vocal tone.

The one dies with the most mics, wins!

I wasn't aware of the price drop by that dealer on eBay on the AT4040. At $235 new (or the $245 buy it now), it's the other incredible mic deal on the planet. The other one is the Oktava MK012 two for $100 at Guitar Center that pops up from time to time.

Ok I'm starting to like the sound of this, as it sounds like there's a good chance the AT4040 would cover more ground on vocals than either a really bright or really warm mic, and I can always (and probably will) get other more specialized mics later. If I was able to get a single mic (which perhaps the 4040 is) that did well enough on all my vocals, and was a big enough improvement over the Behringer B2, to complete my project, that would be a huge financial coup in my present situation. And leave money over from the "2nd mic" to get stuff like my RNC and a big heavy duty boom stand. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out. Anyone know if GC carries AT mics much/at all?

Yea the Baby Bottle is a good mic, but its kinda lush in the midrange and may not mesh with certain voices. I got a really good deal on it, used $250. I've used it for trumpet and for acoustic guitar with good results, but its not spark-il-ee enough for my voice.
