Several months back I bought a pair of Josephson e22S mics for use as overheads. I've had some free time lately so I decided to check these against the other pairs of mics I have:
mk012
C1
NTK
e22S
I have assembled pictures and audio clips. Each mic has two audio clips...
1. A dry audio clip with no signal processing except some volume leveling
2. A processed clip comprised basically of Compression only (No EQ).
I took efforts to place the overhead mics in the same locations to preserve imaging. I probably was not totally successful... but I do believe the kit imaging between clips is very similar. I used the Recorderman Overhead technique.
As for close micing, I will upload a clip soon with the e22S overheads with close mics. This will include Kick, Snare top and Bottom, and Tom Bottom micing.
The audio clips are 160K mp3's. I tested both 160K and 320K and to my ears the differences for this demonstration were minimal. I recommend you download these and listen instead of streaming. The differences can be suttle.
Take from my effort what you will. I know some of you will consider this a waste of time... please don't waste your time and move on. Otherwise I'd like to read your comments
