I have a synthesizer and nearfield reference monitors. Is it okay just to run the outs from the synth to the monitors, ( is this taboo?) or should I go through a mixer?

I will soon be adding a sampler - I know I need a mixer now with two pieces of equipment, but here is another question ----

I have a Yamaha four track recorder. Can this be used as a mixer? I sent my keyboard through it, without recording - just as a through to the monitors. It works fine, but when I go to extreme dynamic levels (loud) it distorts. It did not do this when I went directly to the monitors.

Final queston, what are balanced and unbalanced outputs? How does this impact anything?

I appreciate in advance the answers to these questons.

Thanks

M

Its' OK to go direct.
Yes, you can use it as mixer. If the volume of the keyboard is too loud for you mixer I suggest you lower the volume.

Tyhe difference belween balanced and unbalanced has been answered here before, try to do a search, first here, then on www.google.com.
