Mixing ?

How common is it to adjust the master fader during mixing? Is there any reason it should be left at unity? On a song I am mixing, it's alot easier to bring up the chorus slightly with the master, as opposed to trying to bring up all the faders evenly.Is there any reason why I shouldn't do this?

yes you can do that.....

but also try doing things with the arrangement such as adding lifting elements to the chorus and toning down the verses to give the song a more natural volume shift.....

I do have an arpeggiated guitar that comes in on the choruses and the drums naturally progress.I was starting out with a peak, around - 4 db and building towards -1 db by the end of the song.

Just a thought: if you plan to overcompress the song afterwards (like I always do ), the master fader movement will have probably a different effect than you desired... Think of that...
