Today I finally set up my studio with the Mackie 24X8 board i just got. I used the Direct Outs to send the signal from the band, thru the Mackie Board, direct out and into the ADAT tape machines. That part seems fine.

Here is the problem I run into.

When coming out of the ADATS and back into the Mackie for mixdown, If I go into the 24 tape inputs on the back, I can get the MIX B to send the signal to the monitor amp thus I can hear it, but I have no fader control on the seperate channels>?>? I have tried coming out of CNTRL ROOM OUT on the board and MIX-B out on the board over into the monitor amp. Still no fader control to do any mixdown.

If I come out of the MAIN MIX on the board (which is also being used to our PA for band rehersal to my amps, but today I "Y"ed the outputs just to play and try to get signal to both places) anyway it works then. I have fader control.

Isnt there a way to use the MIX-B or something to mixdown my mixes with still have fader control? I just got the board, so I am still learning, but I read manual and still cant get it to do what I want.

Can one of you veterans out there please help me out? My goal is to have the Mackie wired up so that I can use it for band rehersal AND recording/mixdown without alot of re-patching. (if thats possible)

Much appreciated,,,,,

I used to use a Mackie 8-buss with ADATs and an HD24....

When tracking, I used the MIX-b buss to send to the artists for an independent monitor mix (while the main mix was used in the control room).....

On mixdown - the MIX-B buss can be used as additional line inputs (to get 48 inputs at mixdown), but the faders would be set to TAPE (button at the top of each strip), and the channel strips then control the multitrack outputs......

Sounds like you've either mis-wired, or didn't understand the mic input/tape input functionality on each channel strip!
