Major update. I take it all back. The song sounds like a hit because it is a hit! I thought it was an original, but I was mistaken. I am not that familiar with Amy Winehouse but just found the tune.
In light of that the heck with it, good cover, just work on the mix a bit.

I humbly eat crow.:D

oooh, haha. nice research ;)

I think in the future all people recording covers should disclose that it is a cover and who's song it actually is.
Not everyone will be familiar with all the different genres of music out there, and not stating it is a cover is deceptive.

It certainly deceived me. Now I feel like a fool for so enthusiastically complimenting "your" song:(

I do agree with this.

I thought it was an original as well.

Pass me a plate of that crow.

I assumed it was original too. Doesn't take from the fact though that they He has a great voice for this style of music and the mix isn't terrible. A lot of people do covers on here, but I agree it should be stated up front.

:laughings: You guys need to get out more often. ;)

"Valerie" was a MAJOR hit for Amy Winehouse & Mark Ronson.

Bruno Mars does a great rendition of it too.

Yup. No slight or harshness intended towards anyone involved in the thread - I just figured that people posting had got the wrong end of the stick and weren't aware that it was a cover. Hell, even Amy Winehouse's version is a cover, but it was her take on it that broke big. I was just trying to clear that up, and explain to folks before you start flying him out from Liverpool to your studios, that if you want to hear that version with the real horns 'n drums, then it's already out there! :D

I'm sure there are lots of radio songs that slip under people's radar...we don't all listen to everything, all the time.
It was just funny how folks immediately recognized it as a potential hit song....which in fact it was. :)

So yeah....because of that, it's best if people state when it's a cover and not an original song.
Also...if they are only showcasing the vocals, and the rest of the music came from canned backing tracks or tracks done for them by someone else...then the song really belongs in the Singing & Vocals Forum, and not the MP3 Clinic.

I never paid much attention to Amy Winehouse. My loss, maybe. I dig The Zutons version. Great tune...might just cover it. ;)
