I have asked this question before on this site but I lost the response. #1In my quest to mix better I'm getting so hungup on the sound stage settings. I'm clueless on how to pan each instrument and what to record in stereo. I just finished something and mixed it down about 20 diifferent ways. I was pumped because I thought I nailed most variations but then I noticed the soundstage was all "F"ed up when I played them back on a stereo. String section was comming way out of left field
and the comp piano chords way out of right field. So my question is this! If you used the the following instruments what would your pan settings be for each in as per sonar percentages and would you record in mono or stereo. The only thing I had in stereo was the drums (Loops). In addition what should my concerns be about phase when I record instruments in stereo?

Drums String Section
Bass Keyboard
Lead Guitar Rthm. Guitar

I getting ready to hook up my monitors which should help this situation but I panned a string section at L some % and It sounded like it was comming from next door and not from the mix. Do you all use a max pan setting and build within these params? Would would be the widest you would pan? In terms of Sonar % of course. 2. I bought some drum loops such smartloops, Eastwest etc. Should I import these as two audio tracks or a single stereo track. I notice some of them aren't mixed to well and when I try and quell the cymbals by cutting high end I get a cheap, harsh sounding drum......ANY SUGGESTIONS?.....3..... In my quest to get a grip on this technology I noticed I'm losing my chops. SHOULD I A: Throw my computer out the back door and beat it to bits. B: Turn my tower into a planter.....C: Turn my monitor into a Christmas DEcoration......D: Or slowly learn this recording stuff at a snails pace..........Signed: Lost in 1s and 0s
