hi there,

i have just completed treating my small room at home. Basically i made my own bass traps and covered every single corners in my room and also put up alot of absorptive material on the wall. All roxul stuff covered with fabric.

i have notice that my stereo imaging has improve tremendously.

i am only using a laptop (mbp) - motu ultralite soundcard - active genelecs(with sub) near field monitoring to mix

I mix purely ITB.

Seeing my setup , i am still unsatisfied with my mixes.
Knowing my setup, do i have a limitation in regards to mixing?
i feel like i have reach the limit and cant go further to enhance my mixes.

My quetion: Lets say if i decided to buy the apogee symphony. Will this make alot of difference in regards to the mix? Will i be able to hear much much more compared to the ultralite? will i get better imaging/depth? will it help alot more using lush convertors?

Your pro advise is much appreciated.

Thank you for your time

I'm sorry to say that I don't have an answer for you :(

But what I do wanna say is welcome to Home Recording! While I may not have an answer to your question, I'm sure that there will be someone here who does. This site is incredibly useful and we hope you'll stick around ;):D

I also wanna say that I'm very jealous of your studio! Especially that little "dexter" guy on your DAW desk.

Hi, post some of your mixes. Are you rolling off all the bass in the instruments that dont need it ? Do you have a 4 band compression over the master as this helps to highlight too much reverb or other faults in the recording. What kind of material are you working with ? What is the problem area ?

Full-range monitoring.

The little satellite/sub thing is great for post, but not for mixing.

(IMO, YMMV, etc., etc., yada, yada)

when u say full range monitoring, u mean a pair of speakers that can give out a flat response from 20hz - 20khz ?

if yes, they must be pretty big right? how many inch drivers ?

something like the bm6a dyna audio ?
even with the bm6a speakers they only go as low as 40hz. Is it necessary to get the sub to if i decide to get a full range speaker ?
