Hey shailat,

are you going to post the finished results, maybe along with what was done to each track? That would be a pretty cool learning tool for giant newbie tools like myself ;)

. . . I was trying to find out what tricks others use to give the SOUND a boost, not the playing . . . I'm just wondering if anyone can share some tips/tricks regarding processing for a compact yet big and in-your-face drum sound...

I would say heavy compression and limiting is a good start. This is also one of those areas where analog tape and/or tube saturation is really a benefit. Saturated tape just sounds big -- also the harmonics produced by driven tubes can create the same kind of effect. Compressed, limited, and driven almost to the verge of distoring.

Stereo micing -- I've tried stereo micing in front of the kit as opposed to using overheads, and this creates a different kind of stereo separation that "spreads the kit out" more.

I have a "detune" effect that I like to use. You can experiment with the pitch shift if you use a DAW to get this effect. Using a very quick slap-back type delay can help (must be very fast, though, or else it will sound like crap). As far as reverbs go, I just experiment untill I find one I like, but I usually prefer using a a lot of pre-delay.
