Mixing Problems

I just built my first home studio and started working on my first project which was a pop demo for a soloist. i'm running my yamaha motif and a few other keyboards into a behringer mixer then into a digital soundcard on my computer. This goes out to an amp which powers two krk monitors. I'm using cool edit and soundforge 4.5(which i'm new to).

The problem I'm running into is that I don't have sufficient low-end on any of the songs and the overall volume is really low compared to most recordings. Should I re-record all of my drum and bass parts and crank up the bass on the mixer or is there a way to bring the low-end up in cool edit or soundforge without having any clipping? My all around level on most of the recordings is around -3db. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am very new to all of this.

Would a sonic maximizer or some kind of rack unit help me in getting a bigger/fuller sound? I'm also going to be starting work on a house/techno album and will definitely need a pumpin' low end of that. Thanks in advance.

I can't say exactly cause I haven't heard the song. It could just use some creative EQ. I always stay away from re recording drums. I would either trigger another drum source or if this is not an option, re record the song.

What does your wave form look like? It might be maxing out at -3db, but where is the average falling around? Are you using compressors at all durring the mixing process? Maybe you need to compress a drum or vocal or two. I have been able to get all of my recordings up to a respectable volume/low end without using a "sonic maximizer" or anything like that. Build the mix from the ground up and use compressors on instruments that shoot nasty audio peaks all over the place.
