I've recently come into a Marantz CDR300 CDRW burner and two AKG C3000B studio microphones. I'd like to be able to mix on my PC and record onto my PC as well.

Basic question: What technology will best help this happen?

Advanced question: If I wanted to add two more microphones and run them into a four channel mixer, how would I best set this up?

Thanks!

For recording four microphones, yes, you will need a four channel mixer or four mic preamps. The Mackie VLZ or Soundcraft M-Series run around $350 - $450. You can pick up a Behringer mixer for about $80. Some people hate them. Mine has worked fine for 2+years.

You will need mic cables.

You will need a sound card with four inputs if you want to record four seperate tracts simultaneously. Look at the M-Audio Delta 44 and Delta 66. Echo makes some nice cards also.

You will need audio tracking/sequencing software to record. Steinberg (Cubase) and Cakewalk (Sonar) make excellent products. You can also try N-track studio, a less expensive altenative that many people like.

So, your setup would go: microphone > preamp (or mixer) > soundcard > audio sofware.

All of the software packages mentioned allow you to record and mix numerous tracks.
