I don't think LEDs are audible at all.

They are audible when pegged in the RED! :D ;)

The real point was that there are different ways to get to the audio goal line...which is making some music.
What gear you use, what type of lighting you prefer in your studio, or how you like to work in general...
...is totally secondary, and should in many ways become almost transparent to the actual task...like all good tools.

On the digital saide...I'm really amazed at the amount of time DAW users spend talking about their DAWs!!! :laughings:
Yeah, you need to set them up for functionality...but many become caught up with an enamored by the software, that the music part becomes almost secondary at times.
Just hit any DAW user site....you have to dig through many threads to find one where they are talking about music! :)

Pretty soon there will be an "App" for "Recording Studio In The Palm Of Your Hand"!

I am with you there, so bored with toys. But we have to realize that a lot of boys pick a hobby because they want to play with toys, and by play I mean buy. Every now and then (depending on how hungry I get) I'll tell some prospect I ain't selling him a bit of kit because it's redundant with something he already has. Sometimes they get mad about that :D but usually they are happy :)

Tapeheads are fortunate in that respect because your world of toys is defined.

My DAW is c. 2004, I tried the upgrade (it had a few features I wanted) and it was horrible, so I went back. Ugly bloatware. Heh, the personal finance software I use is as old as my Tascam :D I also hate Win7. I could go on . . .

I really wish for a scoring program that allowed totally seamless music composition *and* production without ever having to look at much but a score. DAWs approach the problem from the wrong end. Last time I checked the scoring programs weren't quite there yet; I am due to check again soon.

I will add that scoring software on iPad is really cool, especially since it scrolls for you and eliminates stage lighting. Definitely down with musicians using that.

I'll have a product in the I/O segment of that market by the end of the year (hopefully summer). I don't do apps though, there are already plenty out there.

I have a Roland box that says digital chorus on the outside, but apparenlty when you look on the inside it is actually an analog delay....

I think its from the early 80s

Yeah...though even with tape, you still keep buying to feed the reel monster! :)
And when it comes to the rest of analog, it ain't cheap compared to the digital "emulations".

My DAW systems are also very old, but I'm not changing any time soon.
I still have a 10-year old DAW system, W2K and running Samplitude 7....but I just got a "new" system with the latest versions on it 11 & 12, though I'm still pretty much using the old system, until I finish off a few songs in production, and the new versions are different, so I need time to get use to them. Plus, my "new" system computer is not as old as the other one, but it's at least 5 years old.
I run PCI based A/D/A boxes and don't need Super Quad 500 processing... :D ...since I'm still mixing OTB through my console and outboard....so no need to drop serious cash on more modern computers and A/D/A boxes.
And you know...more and more people are now starting to question just how much "better" is a $5k converter over a $500 converter.
But I degress...I don't want to get too deep into digital talk on this Analog Only forum. ;)

The beauty of our Analog Machines is they are never obsolete in function. I think they get better, at least I appreciate them more now than when I bought them new.

Will it come with "Nearfield Earbuds"?

VP

No, it is capable of driving 200 ohm headphones to 100mW/channel at less than 1% THD. Or 16 ohm, whatever you like. The front end is most often configured to support "active" remote capsules, a la Schoeps, MBHO, Beyer, etc., but it can support most other microphone configurations too. Not quite enough juice to directly power a tube mic though . . . well, unless I designed the tube mic, of course . . .

No point going after the mass market, I'll leave that to Tascam ;)

Do you have a link?

vinyvamos,

I'm not clear on what you are trying to achieve by having a 100% analog chain. Releasing an album on vinyl is one thing. But removing any digital stage from the signal chain will make no audible difference to the final product.
The only difference will be that you can truthfully state on the record cover that the signal chain was 100% analog, which is meaningless to most people.

Tim

Why do you insist on waving your ignorance all around this forum? No one is slightly swayed by your opinion.

SteveM, we've already addressed this. Let's please not bring it up again in this thread.

Sorry but I wanted to say:

maybe we could have a special fight section on this site.

I'M FOR IT!!! :-P I'll buy beer and potato chips, just don't fling sh-t on the spectators, and keep it outta this forum ;)

Oh I agree...maybe you misunderstood my post.
I was just replying to a previous post about sticking with an older DAW system rather than chasing the upgrade monkey every year.

But yeah...I got 3 tape decks.
A 1/2" Fostex G-16 (I actualy now have two, one as a future parts deck), a 1/4" 1/2-track Otari 5050 BIII (the last one they ever made)...and not sure if you caught any of my recents posts in the Analoig Forum, but I just acquired a 2" 24-track Otari MX-80.
So I'm certainly deep into tape decks and analog gear...but I still love having the DAW to complement the analog stuff.
They work and play well together...so I don't have any reason to bash either. :)

RIGHT! (rubs hands together rapidly in preparation for a heated debate!) I'm not going to drag this thread down into stupid squabbling again but I will say one thing to Tim Gillet about this comment;

And does that shed a possible light on why the OP all of a sudden stopped posting here

The only reason I haven't posted since is cos I've been too bl*&dy busy mixing and working my day job AND I've found it quite amusing to just sit back and watch you all throwing the proverbial digital and analog toys out of the cot :D. I knew from the outset that most vinyl cutting studios have a digital delay. And that is why I have discussed the whole process with the cutting engineer, making sure that there is no digital processing in the signal chain at all. I know it might not sound different in ANY way to me, but at least I am being nostalgic and am enjoying producing a record in an old-fashioned way.

SO! I still haven't took any pics of the setup but I will soon. My bro tried to do a video of a mixdown the other evening but the camera died. Here's the final mix of one of the tracks:

Vamos - Kiss Me - Mix 6 by atomicanalog on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Positive criticisms are welcome of course! I am fully happy with the mixes now and I don't have time to do any more renditions as we HAVE to have the vinyl back before the 3rd May (small EU tour starts then)...
