Is mixing in 5.1 normal and where can i get information and software for it?
Allso what about 7.1?

If you mix in 5.1 or 7.1, keep in mind cds cannot support this type of encoding. You would have to create a SA-CD, HD-CD, or DVD-A for this type of mixing to play the audio properly. Currently, there is not blank SA-CD or HD-cd media available in the market.

I will sometimes mix in 7.1...although to truly appreciate the work i've done, I have to listen to it in my studio. If I mix in 5.1 I can burn it to a DVD to play at home through my surround sound. It sounds pretty sweet - unfortunately, it's really too much work and it takes too much time/energy for it to be worth it personally.

I am interested to hear how things turn out for you.

Good Luck.

I don't know anything.

Well I don't have any idea of how to get started in this 5.1 or 7.1 mixing. What i was asking for was help on how I would go about doing it.

That's really going to depend on what you are using (or at least, plan on using) to accomplish this mix. Naturally if you're using anything analog it's going to be pretty damn near impossible to pull off. I personally use ProTools with it's built in mixing capabilities...makes it easy on me.

I've found that you can also use the Sony Oxford R-3 Digital Console.

A simple search on google should clear up any general inquiry you may have.

If you name specific products, we may be able to help a little more....

I think I can use Adobe Audition to make the 5.1 mixes but what file format could I save that to. Also what programs could I use to make the types you descirbed such as DVD?

I don't have any experience with audition. sorry.

To make a DVD-A, you can use any DVD creation software...roxio, nero, etc..

Nero

Are you sure Nero is capable of this?
Is there a plugin maybe?
I tried it and I didn't see it.
