mixing down problems

i have an old fostex 4-track v-18(i think) I have managed to lay down some tracks but when i tried to mix it down onto my stereo it would only ever come out of one speaker! i've twiddled with the pan knobs but this has made no difference please help!!!!!!!!!!

Does everything always come out of one speaker, or does it dissapear when you twiddle with the pan knobs?

changing the pan pre mixdown sends a signal to both speakers but after recording the results only ever come out of one speaker, wherever the pan has been placed. the other speaker only has a very weak(if any) sound and sounds crap!

If it works at mixdown, but not at playback, somethings wrong between those points. Either your cassette (assuming thats what you mix to, you just said "stereo") is broken, or the cables going to and from your cassette deck is faulty.
