MIXING DOWN FROM ADAT TO ???????

I have been bitten by the recording bug. I have tons of equipment and don't know how to use it yet. Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have recorded some stuff on adat and when I tried to mixdown to cassette it sounded horrible. I know that what I have recorded isn't going to sound that great but it should sound better this. I have read that mixing down to a HiFi VCR is better but how much better. Eventually I want to be able to get something I can listen to in the car or give out to friends. I have a STUDIO 32 board, ALESIS LX20 ADAT, ALESIS QUADRAVERB, ROLAND COMPRESSER.
 
Try a minidisc deck...the're very reasonably priced and way cleaner than cassette.

bingo, i think the CDR is the way to go as well. Just take the ADAT and record to wave on your computer. Then when you get it in wave format, you can edit and adjust it, bring levels up, so forth. Then from there you can just mix down to anything via the output on your sound card. But the best i think would be the CDR since you only want something personal for yourself. And it will sound exactly like the ADAT since its all digital. I hope this helps.

How is the Studio 32 by the way??? I was considering purchasing one, but i have gotten so many mixed reviews on this.
 
If you are going to mix down on a pc and make
cds make sure you format your adat tapes at
44100 not 48000 or you will have to convert
the sample rate at a later date. if you have
allready recorded at 48000 cool edits free
download of cool edit2000 will convert the
files for you and not mess with the time or
pitch
 
Hey Jerome, Would it be simpler to format at 48.000 and mix down on the pc at that sample rate and convert to 44.100khz right before burning the cd? correct me if I'm wrong I think I read a post by sonusman about this, just didnt wanna lead someone wrong on this, and is'nt 48.000khz the default recording sample rate on adats? we thought a few weeks ago that we need to record at 44.100, but now we are just leaving as is and converting back to 44.100 right before burning the cd, like I said may be wrong and you or someone else here please correct me if I am.

I'm not that up on all the computer stuff but
I recorded three tapes worth of music then
found out the software I had would not convert to 44100 and leave the pitch and everything else ok. Didn't know cd quality is
set at 44100 until I tried to burn one and couldn't. Called alesis they told me to convert and found their software wouldn,t do
it, called back and was told to download the
demo version of cool edit 2000 and that worked. For awhile there I thought I was going to be screwed. Anyway don't take my work for anything I'm pretty new at this game but I just figure if you format the tapes at 44100 to start with (I'm not even sure you can) you can save time later.
 
jerome, I'm not up to snuff on this computer stuff either, had the very same problem you had, but here's the thing 48.000 sounds better than 44.100, so your gonna have to dither back down to 44.100 to burn your cd but your gonna want to mix in the 48.000 format because it just sounds a little better. hope I dont get blown out of the water for this :)
