Hello,
I'm going to start some home recording but can't afford much at this time.
I have a powerful enough pc , sonar and some mics.
I have wanted an interface such as the Aardvark Direct Pro Q10 but it is out of my price range. I am now considering an analog mixing board.
I hope to get the DPQ10 one day and now need some advice on a board.
I'm looking at the Behringer 1832FX-pro for 249.00.
Am I making a mistake not going with a mackie, is Behringer that bad?
Any input would be great.

I'm a bit confused here. You mention a multi input sound card but you want to get a mixer instead for recording? In my experience, you'll need both if you want to do "full band at once" type recording.
As far as mixers go, I have a very low opinion of Behringer mixers. Their compressors are OK but the build quality of the mixers is lacking in my humble opinion.

mixer outs to sblive

Sorry,
I was going to use the outs on the mixing board then into the stereo input of my sblive soundcard, I would rather purchace a multi input device and mix in sonar rather than try to achieve a good mix on the board with say 4 inputs/mics of drums and have no options once it has been recorded on to the PC. I can't afford the DPQ10 so I thought my only option to start some recording on the PC, mic my drums and stay within my price range was to try to get a good mix on the ?Behringer? and then into my only input on my cheap soundcard. I guess I will have to deal with some more noise this way. If the Behringer isn't a good choice and I was going to spend the money on a better board I might consider waiting and getting the DPQ10 or other interface and no mixer. How bad is the Behringer? What would you suggest? Is mixing the drums on the board without the option to tweak individual inputs on the PC that limiting?

ideally, you would like to at least separate the cymbal hardware from drums. but we're obviously not living in the ideal world.

I do what you're talking about doing, (mixing drums on analog mixer, send stereo feed into stereo soundcard) and my results are "less than desireable." I would consider buying things you can sell evenutally to climb towards your precious Q10. They are pretty badass from what I've read.

Things I would consider in the meantime are a delta 44 and a mackie 1202VLZ. I believe that would give you four ins/outs on both ends and would provide four discrete tracking options. Much more flexibility than simply buying a 1604 and running dual rcas.

On Ebay, you would be able to afford these guys. $150-200 for the 44 and a $100 for an older 1202VLZ. I would hesitate to say, on account of my lack of experience with the older Mackies, but I'd guess that having an older VLZ board is still better than having a newer Behringer. That, plus I'm sure they will sell well later when you need just that little extra scratch to afford the Aardvark.

Good luck and happy recording.

I have the Behringer MX2004A mixer and I have not experienced many problems with it ... I happen to like it, but I have a few rack processors

"Art SGE Mach II"
"Alesis Compressor"
"Summit Audio Inc. Mic Tube Amp"

Go With The Behringer if you're strapped for cash

Hey--
I must say, my experience with Behringer mixers has been less than phenominal. They do the job, and they do it well enough if you're strapped for cash but still want a decent amount of inputs. It would be great to get a Mackie, the only problem--a 4 input mackie costs about as much as a 8 input Behringer. Behringer isn't THAT high quality, but it's great for those who are new to recording, strapped for cash, yet still need a lotta inputs. If you are planning on recording bands live, go with the Behringer. For higher quality, but not as much versatility go with the Mackie VLZ. Good Luck.

Thank You all
I may just have to sell off some gear and wait it out.
