just a quick question...
if i use a mixing desk to record my stuff, i can set e.q, levels, and panning etc before recording and this will take effect. after doing a take and the audio is saved onto my computer, settings i change on my mixing desk will no longer alter the audio saved on the computer, right? the only way to change the settings after recording is to use the software tools?

replies appreciated, steve

the stuff on your computer is non-linear. therefore it's easy to edit or undo if you make mistakes. Anything going through your board and being recorded to the computer you can't change after unless you re-record. Anything that you're playing back through your board FROM the computer will not be harmed unless you're recording it back into the computer. Think of it this way: if you have a "REC armed" button flashing or lit up, then you need to be careful 'cause you might be recording something.
