I just recorded this track with a live drummer (upt till now I have only ever used midi drums) and have the semblance of a basic mix going. I'm looking for advice on how to approach the overall sound of the piece, am I on the right track or not...?

Drums for example, they could probably still do with a fair bit of EQ but in what direction? Guitars also might have a little too much reverb in places... and I know some of the solos are a bit quiet, they aren't the problem at the moment. I don't think there is enough 'power' behind the rhythm guitars and I don't know how to go about increasing the heaviness without comprimising the tone).

I've busted my ass to get it this far (so no flames please!), good advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds very good. Soundwise I would suggest a slightly wider panning since so much is happening. Things are getting lost being too close together. Cool tune, nice playing.

Super tight riffing going on here...really liked the song structure and feel...I agree with DavidK...the overall sound seems a bit flat or narrow...needs a "wider" soundscape.Fantastic guitar playing!!!!!

More space is needed. So start with your panning. Keep in mind that your panning is not going to give it a "Bigger" sound, it'll just allow you to place things in place with out masking your frequencies and/or overwhelming your listeners. The drums I "feel" don't need Eq at this time. Instead bring up the bass drum by duplicating it to another track and compress the crap out of it. Start the volume low enough and rise until you get a good balance between the recorded kick and your compressed kick. This will give a thicker attack and stand out a little. That is where I would start. If you want more info please email me and I'll help out as much as i can. Jperieda@hotmail.com

*Information I give is my own interpretation of what I "HEAR" not followed by "do's and don'ts" of recording. Recording is an art of its own, and just as you would paint a picture based on what you see, you record your audible picture based on what you hear.*
