Mixing 2 AIFF stereo files into one?

I have 2 AIFF files (stereo). I would like to "layer" them such that I can fade between them, cut them into pieces (intelligently), and generally play with the mix of all 4 channels.

The display of the 4 channels should show the layers in enough detail to let me easily see the waveforms of all 4 channels simultaneously and in relation to each other.

I then want to output a single stereo AIFF file from the mix.

I'm using a Mac.

What software should I be looking at?

I have Digital Performer. But it is SO complex, I don't know where to begin.

Is there something simpler?

What you're doing is SO non-complex.

Import both files into DP.

Then export.

You're done.

Import then export. Simple. Except there is no "Import" or "Export" in any menu. Simple? I don't think so.

Again, is there a simpler way?

If you can't find import, I'm pretty sure you can literally drag the files into the sequencer.

Very informative videos. My version of DP is older than the one they are using (no "Import" in the File menu on mine) but I get the idea.

Thanks.

Ahh, okay I remember you now. You asked about a registration for an old version of DP. Yeah, I really like DP, though I haven't used it in quite a while.
